Promoting a Culture of Health, Wellbeing and Safety Across Government Entities

Program Overview

The Workplace Wellness & Safety Program is a strategic initiative by the Abu Dhabi Public Health Center (ADPHC) aimed at fostering a healthier, safer, and more productive work environment across all government entities in Abu Dhabi. In alignment with the emirate’s broader public health vision, the program empowers organizations to prioritize the well-being of their employees through structured, evidence-based wellness and safety initiatives.

Program Objectives

  • Enhance Employee Health and Well-being: Including both physical and mental health, encouraging employees to adopt healthy habits like regular exercise, balanced nutrition, taking care of their mental health and wellbeing including stress management and healthy sleep.

  • Increase Productivity and Performance: Healthier employees are often more focused, energetic, and less likely to experience presenteeism or absenteeism, contributing to overall business performance.
  • Empower Employees: Educate and equip employees with the knowledge and tools to take ownership of their health and make informed decisions about their lifestyle.
  • Enhance Employee Retention and Morale: Through employees feeling their well-being is valued and supported by the entity, it fosters loyalty, increases job satisfaction, and improves overall morale.
  • Foster a Positive Company Culture: Contribute to a culture of health and well-being within the organization, making the company a more attractive place to work and improving employee engagement.
  • Promote Occupational Safety: Raise awareness and implement best practices that reduce risks and improve workplace safety.
  • Standardize Health Promotion Across Entities: Establish a unified framework that can be adapted and adopted across diverse government sectors.

Key Components

  • Awareness Campaigns & Educational Sessions: Covering topics such as physical activity, healthy nutrition, mental health, ergonomics, and reducing risks for chronic diseases as per request from entities.
  • Workshops & Events: Tailored health and safety activities organized in collaboration with focal points from participating entities like activating Health Kiosk screening at entities.
  • Wellness webinar series: A structured timeline of initiatives rolled out throughout the year.

Program Reach

Since its launch, the program has successfully engaged numerous government entities and continues to expand its reach. The program operates through a collaborative model, working closely with HR departments, safety officers, and internal wellness committees to ensure relevance and sustainability from over the 38 entities that are currently enrolled in the program.

Program Manual

The Workplace Wellness & Safety Program Manual serves as the foundational guide for participating entities. It outlines the strategic framework, planning tools, recommended practices, and evaluation methods to support effective implementation.
