Antimicrobials are special medicines that help our bodies fight germs that can make us sick. They can either kill the germs or make it hard for them to grow and cause illness to humans. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is when the germs learn how to fight back against these special medicines. This means that the medicines won't work as well to kill the germs and make us healthy again and that make it harder for doctors to help us when we get sick.
