Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan, cultural and educational institutions launches the" Books, friends in discovery" initiative In collaboration with Abu Dhabi Public Health Center.

As part of efforts to promote health among all members of the community, Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan cultural and educational institutions, in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Health Center, and in partnership with the Zayed Central Library and a group of publishing houses inside and outside the UAE, launched the " Books, friends in discovery" initiative, which was announced by Sheikha Shamma bint Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan during the meeting of the Shamma Mohammed Majlis  for thought and knowledge in January 2021, the initiative targets people infected with covid-19 virus during the isolation period.

The "book companion of solitude" initiative devotes a weekly book in the field of mental and physical health, as well as the areas of general culture, cognitive nutrition, self-development and skills that enhance the quality of life of the individual, in order to provide a digital cultural platform that contributes to the investment of leisure time.

Sheikha Dr. Shamma bint Mohammed bin Khalid, chairman of Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan institutions said:

"The book is a window for man to emerge from his temporal and spatial boundaries into welcoming worlds that do not prevent him from wandering between different societies and cultures at every time and place like a magical mythological vehicle.

Based on our belief that the response to the covid-19 pandemic requires the work and giving of all components of society and our duty as individuals and nonprofit institutions to play our active role in the response to the pandemic, I was keen to launch this initiative that aims at 

(patients in quarantine) to provide e-books to read during the isolation period. I express my gratitude and appreciation for the great efforts and giving of (Abu Dhabi public health Center) in all its branches and departments for the safety and security of every human being living on our good land in the United Arab Emirates, and thank them for their cooperation and work to provide all the possibilities to start this initiative and this is considered a success and an achievement itself”

To add with that the (Books, friends in discovery) initiative will be officially launched in conjunction with the start of the National Reading Month ( March 2021), with the aim of promoting and supporting national initiatives to achieve the vision, strategy and thinking of the UAE and achieve the objectives of the chairman of the board of directors Sheikha Dr. Shamma bint Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan to make reading a daily habit and create a cultural community where the book is found wherever the reader is and a companion to his idea and life material , and the books will be communicated and sent to the concerned groups to read during the period of health isolation through text messages in the form of links

H.E. Matar Al Nuaimi, Director General of Abu Dhabi Public Health Center, praised the initiative and its importance to achieve a psychological support, and said: "The United Arab Emirates has previously allocated a full year to be the year of reading and we believe that this initiative is a continuation of the guidance of our wise leaders, we believe that reading is a valuable treasure for those who discover it, and certainly this unique initiative will contribute to discovering the benefits of reading by members of the community. Mental health development is a key component of health and well-being.

We are very pleased with this initiative, where it came in time where the society of UAE is responding to the Coved 19 pandemic.
